Something about Brad's nice desk reminded me of something I read a few years ago when I first discovered blogs. In a bizarre coincidence Hugh blogged about that very article this week, and I just read it this morning.
It was, of course, Hugh's awe-inspiring "How to be creative" essay. Here's the Web version or Pretty PDF version - and if you haven't read it before (or even if you have) you MUST read it.
Or die lonely and penniless, your choice.
Anyway, here's the quote I was reminded of.
Meeting a person who wrote a masterpiece on the back of a deli menu would not surprise me. Meeting a person who wrote a masterpiece with a silver Cartier fountain pen on an antique writing table in an airy SoHo loft would SERIOUSLY surprise me.
Or it could be that Brad is just incredibly rich and buys the things that we'd all buy given those resources. But does it look like you could work at that desk?
Regardless, the point to remember is to read more Hugh.
