Adopting a Dog
On Saturday we submitted an application to adopt a Golden Retreiver from the Golden Retreiver Rescue of Atlanta (GRRA). Our Australian Shepherd Cody would like someone to play with (at least we hope so!)
I was very surprised in the first place that anyone would abandon a Golden in the first place, but GRRA has rescued a lot of dogs and placed them in temporary foster homes awaiting adoption. Without kids I would be tempted to ask about being a foster myself, but that would be a lot harder on the kids; having to repeatedly give up their new friend.
I was a little surprised (but pleased) how involved the process was to adopt a rescued dog.
There's an extensive application form, then we were assigned an adoption consultant - ours is Bob.
He will review our application, match us up with their available dogs and then visit our home (everyone must be present too, even kids) to check us out. That's kinda impressive I think, and shows that they really want to find great homes for these beautiful dogs.
Of course, we have no idea who we'll end up with, or even if they have a "match", but obviously I'll keep you posted..
