Woot
I may be slow to have noticed Woot, but I mention them here in case you, discerning reader, are slower.
I wish I could remember who told me about them, or did I just find them (I doubt it)? In any case, Woot (most definately NOT w00t or Woot!) is an interesting idea - they sell just one thing each day, and many times it's sold out before the East Coast wakes up. So I'm guessing that California sales are as rare as rocking horse poo.
Interestingly, although they have a blog to get the latest product into your wildly over-subscribed aggregator, you'll have to visit their web site to see the price.
So, following the theme of passing on golden nuggets to those who know far more than me, here's what to do:
- Start > Control Panel > Scheduled Tasks > Add Scheduled Task
- Select Internet Explorer as the program to run
- Perform this task Daily
- Choose a time, say 3am
- Enter your user info and ask to see advanced properties at the end.
Finally you'll get dialog showing you the embarrassing DOS guts behind Windows® - see that box saying C:\PROGRA~1\INTERN~1\IEXPLORE.EXE ? At the end of that line, add a space and http://www.woot.com/ and save it. Tomorrow you'll be greeted by a browser showing the latest woot offering.
Now, wasn't this the in-depth technical insight that you subscribed for?
