  • IPIX

IPIX is really impressive. If you've ever spent 10 minutes looking at houses online you'll probably have seen one - they usually call them virtual tours, and they allow you to rotate around the room with your mouse.

You can see our house using this technology now, the new tours went online last night.

Easy to use isn't it? Even more impressive though is the way it was taken. I imagined expensive movie cameras and lots of setup. It was one lady with a camera and a regular tripod - and just two plain photographs per tour!

The camera had a funky-looking 185 degree "fish eye lens" on it, so the two photographs - one taken in one direction and the other taken in exactly opposite direction - overlapped. Some very clever software takes the two photographs and turns it into the seamless tour you see.

Btw, don't just accept that your realtor uses IPIX technology. We nearly went with another realtor who used the right buzzwords but whose technology was 20 years out of date.
