  • ScottW commits to Web 4.0

You heard it here first - Coding Wizard ScottW leaked the news to me tonight that he is secretly writing an app to compete in the race to be the first application to be certified as Web 4.0 compliant.

It's certainly going to be a challenge, but with Jason coding again how can we fail?

UPDATE: I'm being too subtle. What I'm trying to make fun of is the stupid hype that's being spread about Web 2.0. NewsGator Online has Web 2.0 mentioned in 4 of its top 10 memes - I suppose I'm adding to that noise too.

Web 2.0 is plain silly if you ask me. Atlas/Ajax - just old technology wrapped up in a nice new wrapper. Wiki's? LOL, you think wiki's are NEW?

We were discussing this last week; I've always used the term CMS, but Knowledge Bases, Wikis and many more words are simply content.

It's marketing actually. Did you know you can sell specialized versions of products for more money? Sure you can. I sell a CMS - but if I made a Wiki version or a Knowledge Base I'd have 3 specialized products and could target different markets.

Pop Quiz: How many code changes would I have to make?

    Zero.

    It's just marketing.

Maybe I create a new skin for the products, so it looks a little different. A new logo perhaps. But don't be confused by marketing terms. Content Management is at its core a very simple concept.

But wiki's meaning Web 2.0? Don't make me laugh any more; it hurts.
