If you were to die today..
It's old news in a way, but I have only just read Steve Jobs' speech today (via Kathy Sierra)
As she says, everyone should read it.
It's interesting thinking of someone like Steve Jobs as a normal person. He is, right? Certainly talented, and probably lucky too but in the end just a normal person. But I keep hearing this repeated idea from these super-business people - drop out, follow your heart, do something, don't wait.
Tim McGraw has been singing about the same thing for months now too. (Funny aside; I joked with Tara that it would be fun to do all those things you always wanted to do, and asked her how much I'd get to spend of the $1m life insurance that they'd get if I died - she laughs and tells me to live it up. She'd give me 500 bucks.)
Hey, I'm not being morbid here!! Just saying, I totally agree.
Weird actually; a friend was saying the same thing the other day too. His "Don't sweat the small stuff. Take what you want, forget the rest, enjoy the moment" is out of context here, but you get his drift. And he's done it - carrying his balls in a wheelbarrow describes him perfectly.
Read Steve's speech..
You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle.
Damn straight.
